การใช้ allow/let/permit

Let มักใช้ในการพูดสั่งการ คำที่ตามต้องเป็นกรรมหรือสรรพนามที่เป็นกรรม และตามด้วยคำกริยาที่ใช้แต่ไม่มี to นำหน้า ตัวอย่าง Let James sit here. Don't let me forget there is a cake in the oven. My father won't let me go out tonight.

Allow ใช้ในการเขียนเป็นส่วนมาก ส่วนคำ Permit มักใช้เป็นทางการ หรือการเขียนเชิงวิชาการตามด้วยกรรม/สรรพนามที่เป็นกรรม และมักจะใช้ในประโยค passive voice (verb to be +V.3) บวกด้วย to + V. ตัวอย่างเช่น I am not allowed to smoke in the house. Photography is not permitted in the gallery. Customers are permitted to use the car park. Some parents allow their children to do whatever they like.
